DVD Rental for the New Year

hbo series

The new year brings with it new challenges and new resolutions but also, unless we are very lucky indeed, a lot of the old frustrations and routine of the old year, whatever that consists of.

Making new plans is difficult, though, whether it's a plan to save money or weight it takes work to change and more to make the change stick.

So why DVD rental for the new year?

A number of reasons spring immediately to mind but let's break them down into three main areas before going on to examine them further.

The first area is that it changes daily habits with a minimum of effort.

In the case of DVD rental, it's a service which is delivered to your home eliminating the need for you to make any particular effort away from your norm in order to receive it.

Thus it immediately creates its own norm and standard - it's a game changer within just a few clicks and with a minimum of willpower required, always a plus when it comes to the New Year.

There are even credit only online DVD rental services such as Lovefilm which offer a limited number of rentals rather than a rolling monthly contract which can be ideal if your plans for the New Year don't stretch past January or February.

The second area, and perhaps the most important, is the fact that DVD rental can aid and abet all manner of new years resolutions.

Cooking DVDs, for example, are now more widespread than ever and can teach even a novice to whip up new dishes much more easily than books can.

There are also DVDs which teach hobbies as diverse as sewing and acting techniques.

Since many rental sites also offer huge world cinema and foreign language film stocks then the service is also a great way to help people to learn a new language or brush up on their skills for speaking and understanding an existing one.

For those that are hoping to do more travelling in the coming year it could also be an opportunity for them to get to grips with the culture, customs and history of the country that they will be going to.

Last but by no means least it's worth noting that exercise DVDs are often available to rent from these services and there is no resolution so widespread as the one to get in shape.

The third area is that DVD rental can help to inspire a whole new direction for the new year.

Many sites offer games rental services if that's a new hobby that strikes you and the inducemenets above could equally be taken up as a novel hobby.

The Killing of Georgie Rod Stewart Part 1 & 2

The beginning is priceless - good laugh but a song with a serious message. Includes both Part 1 & 2 . Songwriter - Rod. SONG MEANING / about this... - This song about the murder of a homosexual by a New Jersey gang was one of the first songs to deal with the subject of homophobia. In the May, 1995 issue of Mojo, Stewart explained: "That was a true story about a gay friend of The Faces. He was especially close to me and Mac. But he was shot or knifed, I can't remember which. That was a song I wrote totally on me own over the chord of open E." Asked about writing a song with a gay theme, Stewart said, "It's probably because I was surrounded by gay people at that stage. I had a gay PR man, a gay manager. Everyone around me was gay. I don't know whether that prompted me into it or not. I think it was a brave step, but it wasn't a risk. You can't write a song like that unless you've experienced it. But it was a subject that no one had approached before. And I think it still stands up today. I'm going to be doing that song when we play in Britain."

How to Write Vampire Fanfiction

Friday, February 18, 2011

True Blood

Vampires are in these days. It's debatable whether they ever really went out-I mean, who hasn't at least gone through a phase where they were entranced by vampires? Vampires are sexy, strong, and forbidden-what could be more fascinating than that? And there are so many vampires worlds to choose from now: Twilight, House of Night, Vampire Academy, Vampire Diaries, Vladimir Tod, True Blood, Blue Blood, the Van Alen Legacy, Blood Ninja, Blood Coven, and even Buffy and The Lost Boys, who never get old.

It's no wonder so many people want to play in those worlds by writing fanfiction. Here are a few tips for writing vampire fanfiction.

Vampires aren't just people with odd eating habits. Being a vampire changes something in the formerly human nature of these beings. You can certainly have vampires with positive human characteristics, such as the compassionate Carlisle or the loyal Stevie Ray, but those characteristics are tempered and tested by their essentially blood-craving nature. No matter what your fandom, there's something different about vampires.

Know your fandom. Do you know the difference between a drudge, a friend, and a mate? A coven, a tribe and a family? A legal vampire and an illegal one? Don't assume that all vampire worlds follow Bram Stoker's mythology, because they don't. Some vampires sparkle, some are allergic to garlic, some have mystical powers, some are masters of seduction, some drink synthetic blood, some are tattooed, some fall in love with humans and some regard humans only as dinner, some can turn into animals, some can enslave you and some can be enslaved. If you're writing fanfiction, the whole idea is to write within that world, so you have to follow the rules of the world.

Know the difference between AU and AU-Human. This is, of course, where you get to break the rules, but even in AU, you have to do it right. Alternative Universe is where you take the basic canon and you change something from canon. What if Bella hooked up with Jacob (or Jasper or Emmett or Alice) instead of Edward? What if Vlad and Henry discovered an attraction to each other? What if Zoey remained human but still fell in love with Erik? In these stories, you change an element of what the author has given you. AU-Human is a little different; in these stories, the vampires aren't vampires. So, Zoey really is a human, Taro falls in with ninjas who are just ninjas, and Edward is a brooding, dark young man, but doesn't want to drink Bella's blood. Both of these can make fabulous stories...but stick as close to the canonical world as you can, so that the change is even more powerful.

All the rules of good writing apply. Just because it's fanfiction, doesn't mean you don't have to make it the best story you can. Keep your vampires hot and dangerous, your worlds true to canon, your dialogue sharp and witty, and your plots realistic (within the fantastical world of the story). Get a good beta to double check your chapters so that you don't have spelling or grammar errors. Always respect both your original author and your readers...and the vampires you all get to share.

There's so much variety in the fictional worlds of vampires, but they all seem to draw us in and make us want to explore them more. The next time you want to spend more time with a vamp, follow these tips and write for yourself the story you always wanted to read.

Top 5 Swedish Actors

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

hbo series

There have been many great actors from Sweden. Even though the country is fairly small, some of the brightest stars in Hollywood are actually from Sweden. Here is, in our opinion, the top 5 Swedish actors today.

(1) Kirsten Dunst- While Kirsten was actually born in America, the actress is half Swedish, thanks to her mom's side. As with many Swedish ladies, her beautiful blond hair is a giveaway. This great half Swedish actress has starred in many major motion pictures including the Spider Man series, Interview With The Vampire, Little Women, American Beauty and many more.

(2) Ann Margret- Born in Stockholm, Sweden, the beautiful Swedish actress Ann Margret is a true legend. Her acting career in Hollywood began in 1961 when she was just 19 in the film Pocketful of Miracles, alongside the great Bette Davis. She has also had numerous hits such as The Cincinnati Kid, Carnal Knowledge, The Train Robbers and many, many more.

(3) James Coburn- Born in Nebraska in 1928, James Coburn is Swedish, thanks to his mother's side of the family. In his 45 year career he starred in over 70 films and more than 100 television shows. Some of the most notable hits for the great Swedish actor are The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, Young Guns II and more.

(4) Dolph Lundgren- Born in 1957 in Stockholm, Sweden, Dolph Lundgren is a living action hero. He is best known for his role in Rocky IV, where he played the evil Russian boxer Ivan Drago. He has also acted in many other films and television shows such as Masters of the Universe, Universal Soldier and the Joshua Tree.

(5) Alexander Skarsgard- One of the hottest Swedish actors in Hollywood right now is Alexander Skarsgard. He caught his break in television back in Stockholm, but his success there quickly brought him to the States for leading roles in the HBO series True Blood. Playing as the vampire Eric, Alexander's fame has quickly risen. In 2010 he is set to star in at least three major films.

True Blood Vampire Series Overview

hbo series

Every faithful vampire fanatic knows that television does not exactly have a great track record when it comes to making vampire shows. Many of them, especially ones that come from books, end up being a huge disappointment. I think the main reason is that it is so hard to convey the complexity of vampire characters through television and film. When I first heard that HBO would be making the true blood series based on the Charlaine Harris novels I was a bit skeptical. The novels are quite complex because they skillfully blend
horror, romance and comedy together.

I was going to skip the series altogether until I caught an episode from season one online. I was thrilled at seeing some of my favorite characters from the books and I was shocked at how entertaining it was. I.immediately went on to search where I could find back episodes of the series so I could catch up on what I missed. I am so glad I did because I can safely say that the true blood series is the best vampire series I have ever seen on TV.

The true blood series is about a waitress in the deep south named Sookie Stackhouse who happens to be psychic. One day she meets a vampire named Bill and, from that point, her life changes completely. The main plot doesn't just revolve around Bill and Sookie's romance, it includes a very complex and interesting supporting cast of characters. Some of my favorite characters are the hilarious gay drug dealer named Lafayette, his abrasive and vulnerable cousin Tara and, of course, Sookie's painfully dumb over-sexed brother Jason. All of the main and nearly all of the secondary characters are written with such depth and complexity that the series seems more like a soap opera; a crazy, sexy vampire soap opera! There are plenty of twists and turns in the plot and every episode peels back another layer to reveal the inner workings behind the town of Bon Temps.

True Blood is one of those shows that just draws you in the more you watch it. If you have never seen it before I would definitely recommend you check out the true blood series and there are plenty of places where you can watch the back episodes online.

The 1972 Dolphins: Where are They Now?

hbo series

As the NFL season comes to a close, the 1972 Miami Dolphins breathe a sigh of relief; another year has passed and, nearly three and a half decades later, they still remain the only professional football team to achieve perfection. Over the years a few teams, the Bears, the Broncos, the Colts, and the Colts yet again, have caused the Dolphins to sweat profusely in the pit of their fins; these teams have come close but no cigar, especially not Don Shula's.

It's safe to say that all members of the 1972 Dolphins have since retired and moved on to other ventures. Some remain in sports, some engage in completely different activities. No matter where they are and what they are doing, the members of this Dolphin's team still holds a place in NFL history...at least for the time being. This makes us think about them, remembering how they were and wondering what they're doing now.

Bob Griese

An All-Star, a Pro Bowler, a six time Dolphin's MVP, Bob Griese was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1984 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990. Known more for his leadership than his arm - as he passed a little in some games and a lot in others - Bob led Miami to nine winning seasons.

After retiring from football, Bob went on to support his son Brian's collegiate and professional football careers, stating that watching Brian win the Rose Bowl was one of the greatest moments of this life. In 2000, he and Brian wrote a book called Undefeated, which discussed the Dolphin's perfect season as well as the death of Bob's first wife to breast cancer. Bob is presently an ABC College Football Analyst and recently appeared on the game show Wheel of Fortune.

Don Shula

One of the most recognizable coaches in the entire world of sports, Don Shula began his football career with the Cleveland Browns in 1951 as a cornerback. During his playing days, he played for the Browns, the Baltimore Colts, and the Washington Redskins before turning to coaching. In 1963, at the age of 33, Don made history by becoming the youngest person to ever serve as a head NFL coach. This historical moment was only a preview of things to come.

After coaching the Baltimore Colts from 1963-1969, Don was hired by the Dolphins. He remained as their head coach from 1970-1995, a span of years that is unrivaled. Don currently holds the record for most NFL regular season wins with 328 and most Super Bowl's coached with six. In 1997, in a move that everyone saw coming, Don Shula was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Since retired, Don now lends his name to a chain of restaurants in Florida, Shula's Steakhouse. He also spends time with the Don Shula Foundation, a foundation striving to find a cure for breast cancer. Don formed this organization in 1991 right before his first wife succumbed to the disease.

Lawrence Richard Csonka

In the early 1970's, some men feared the Vietnam draft, and others feared Lawrence Csonka. At 6'3, 235 pounds, he was a running back with the ability to run over - or through - defenders. He was also a great blocker and a great receiver, making him a triple threat on offense. Nominated for five Pro Bowls, Lawrence was All-Pro in 1971, 1972, and 1973. He was named MVP of Super Bowl VIII and inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987. In the 1996 NFL Films production of The NFL's 100 Toughest Players, Lawrence claimed the number ten spot.

Since hanging up his cleats, Lawrence has been a motivational speaker, an avid outdoorsman and conservationist, a host of hunting and fishing shows, a General Manager in the United States Football League, and an analyst on American Gladiators. He is currently President and Executive Producer of Zonk! Productions in Lisbon, Ohio and producer and host of a nature program called NAPA's North to Alaska.

Jake Scott

For nine seasons, Jake Scott played in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins and the Washington Redskins. He served as a free safety and a punt returner and made his way to five consecutive Pro Bowls. While playing with the Dolphins, he had 35 interceptions over six seasons, including two in the Dolphin's Perfect Season Super Bowl Victory. Logging 63 return yards in that game as well, Jake was named Super Bowl MVP. In the 1980's, Jake was deemed the Dolphins All-Time Neutralizer by NFL Films . He was inducted into the Georgia-Florida Hall of Fame in 1998. Currently, Jake lives in Hawaii where he is an investor.

Jim Kiick

Forming a duo with Lawrence Csonka, Jim Kiick was the other part of Miami's running game. Known, along with Csonka, as "Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid," Kiick played in Miami from 1968 until 1974. His career was marked by playing in three Super Bowls, and racking up rushing yards. In the Dolphin's record books, Kiick remains listed as the fourth all-time leading rusher.

In later years, his football career was marked by some oddities. These included Kiick and Csonka signing with the World Football League. Kiick eventually came back to the NFL where he was released by the Denver Broncos. As bad luck would have it, this release came on the same day that Kiick saw his marriage end and his house burn down.

In 1996, Kiick was named to the University of Wyoming's Sports Hall of Fame. He is now president of Kiick Sports Promotions, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. His agency books former players for special appearances.

Nick Buoniconti

A linebacker who played for the Boston Patriots and the Miami Dolphins, Nick was instrumental in both play and leadership during his career. He was named to the AFL All-star team in 1969 and the Pro Bowl in 1972 and 1973. In the latter year, he set a record by making 162 tackles, 91 of which were unassisted. In 2001, he was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Since retirement, Nick served as President of the US Tobacco Company and was a co-host on the HBO series, Inside the NFL. Over the past two decades, he has been an instrumental figure in the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. He began taking part in this foundation when his son Marc was paralyzed during a 1985 college football game. This foundation has since become one of the leading neurological research centers in the world.

Nick is believed to be the most vocal member of the Perfect Season Miami Dolphins team. He is rumored to lead a champagne toast each year after the lingering undefeated team suffers its first defeat.

Until another team can equal an unblemished record, it's simply bottom's up for Nick and the rest of the 1972 members. The other NFL franchises only hope is to keep on fishing and pray that something, besides a Dolphin, will bite.

'Hung' Shows Size Matters & Indirectly Promotes Penis Enlargement Pills

hbo series

HBO, the great purveyors of high quality television, may be giving a indirect endorsement to penis enlargement pills with their latest comedic series. In 'Hung,' a new series premiering Sunday at 10 pm, our hero is a father and high school coach who decides to use his large member to lift himself out of a dicey financial situation. It is the first television series to overtly use penis size as a plot device and as such, it places penis issues squarely on the table in a way that is unheard of for television.

Our hung hero's name is Ray Drecker (Thomas Jane) and his predicament is dire. A divorced father of twin teens, he loses custody after his Detroit home goes up in flames. He is left counting his cards and wondering how to rebuild. The backdrop for the tale is economic recession and midlife depression in rust belt America and from this backdrop our hero finds a new path.

After a chance encounter with an old fling, our pimp/poet female lead, Tanya Skagle (Jane Adams), Ray stumbles across a new career as a male "Happiness Consultant." Ray peddles happiness using his rustic good looks and large penis. In the process, the audience gets a glimpse into a particular world, one in which laughter and trouble live side by side.

At its base, 'Hung' presents a story about overcoming hardships. The gigolo side is de-emphasized in favor of the personal relationships. However, as the show's title suggest, the male anatomy is a big part of what moves this story forward.

The Question of Penis Enlargement Pills

It is obvious that penis size carries cultural importance -we don't need an HBO comedy to explain this to us. The old 'bigger is better' adage is as potent today as it ever has been. But, given how overt the message is in this series, one has to wonder what the effect will be on men, especially on men as consumers.

After watching this show, many men may be asking themselves 'do penis enlargement pills work?' and, 'is it a good idea for me to try them?' After all, this program makes it clear that having a large penis is both sexually desirable and an emblem of power. In 'Hung,' our hero creates wealth, prestige and self-worth out of his large endowment. And while this might not lead to a veritable stampede of men racing towards Vimax penis pills, it may spur some thought and conversation about the on the subject.

From brand name products like Vimax penis pills to herbal supplements like Horny Goat Weed, there are a number of orally ingestible penis growth products on the market. In the quest to be more desirable and virile - like the protagonist in 'Hung' - it is not unreasonable to predict that men will see our penis enlargement pills to gain a larger penis. As such, HBO's 'Hung' could double as an ad campaign for Vimax Penis Pills.

After.Life - Movie Review

Friday, February 11, 2011

This movie has two stars: Christina Ricci and Liam Neeson; Justin Long is almost an afterthought - pun intended. Without giving away too much of the story, Neeson is a funeral director who seems to care very lovingly about his clients, is gentle with them and their newly grieving families. Or is he? There are a couple of clues at the beginning of the movie to give away the story but basically the story begins with Ricci being involved in a car accident and winding up on a table in the funeral parlour. It is a little weird from the beginning with Neeson talking with the bodies on his table who presumably aren't ready to die yet.

Like I said I won't go into too many details but the creep factor is pretty high most of the time. The caliber of acting is obviously outstanding so that makes up for a little bit of a lame story - but it is definitely unique. I am constantly impressed by Ricci and Neeson is fabulous in just about everything he does too. Definitely worth your time and the only red light would be some language and nudity which is not done in a sexual manner at all. The ending was not a surprise for us just how it played out so hopefully you will be surprised and a little freaked out too. Enjoy this DVD with your family as long as it doesn't include little kids as the content is way too far over little ones heads.

Dexter - Showtime's Killer Hit

hbo series

Who knew a show about an ethically-minded serial killer could draw in audiences in such droves? Surprisingly enough, not Showtime. Hurting from the amount of viewers who abandoned ship to watch the critically-acclaimed series over at HBO, they might have thought Dexter would provide a bit of healthy competition and perhaps boost their ratings a little bit, but they had no idea what a smash hit they had on their hands.

Dexter, based on a series of books with the same name, chronicles the life of one Miami-based blood-splatter analyst named Dexter Morgan, who moonlights as a serial killer who only kills other serial killers. After his appearance on HBO playing sweet, organized, and perpetually put-upon David Fisher, Michael C. Hall's choice to play such a brooding and masculine character surprised many fans of Six Feet Under, but his superior acting talents have netted him another critically acclaimed smash hit. The show centers on Dexter's life balancing a normal day job and his unrelenting urge to kill. The victim of a stressful experience as a very young child, young Dexter is adopted by a police officer, who recognizes his homicidal urges and creates a sort of code that, if he is to kill, he should only kill a killer who has been proven guilty. Now as an adult, Dexter continues on this path while working for the Miami police department, only keeping up appearances as a normal human being is starting to wear thin.

Despite the show's dark subject matter and unflinching look at death and violence, Dexter has managed to become a hit with both male and female satellite TV viewers, who tuned in to the show during record numbers. Even though he's supposed to be a cold-blooded killer, his kind relationship with the two children of his early girlfriend, as well as his subsequent marriage to another women, show sides that only a skilled actor like Hall could manage to draw out of such a scary character. Through the show's subsequent seasons, Dexter has narrowly escaped being caught and identified numerous times, managed to father a child, and still continues to rid the streets of undisputed bad guys--though a few good guys have managed to make their way into the body count, too. The twists and turns are scheduled to continue on the new season, when John Lithgow is slated to join the cast as one of the world's most elusive serial killers.

With the upcoming fourth season ready to go in September and a season five already in the works, there's no slowing down the momentum that Dexter has built up. Even some of the critics who originally panned the show recanted after seeing the end of season one, with a famous writer from the creme de la creme of the Hollywood press, Vanity, going as far as to publish a retraction. With so many violent shows on regular television as well as on cable and satellite TV, Dexter manages to stand apart. It's a show that doesn't focus on violence for violence's sake, nor does it glorify killing, even though it centers on the life of on particular killer. The show's clever writing and wry look at morals might have won over a legion of fans, but one of them was decidedly not CBS, who were initially going to pick the show up in edited form, only to be bombarded with requests from family and moral watchdog groups who lambasted the show's content and threatened to boycott the station.

All of the controversy can only help Showtime, though, who are ready to roll out their next season to just as much acclaim as the ones before it. The network is expecting a record-number of viewers glued to their high-definition television screens, waiting to see what Dexter's next move is. Thanks to Michael C. Hall's superior acting and a strong script, the network is still riding one killer wave of success.
