After.Life - Movie Review

Friday, February 11, 2011

This movie has two stars: Christina Ricci and Liam Neeson; Justin Long is almost an afterthought - pun intended. Without giving away too much of the story, Neeson is a funeral director who seems to care very lovingly about his clients, is gentle with them and their newly grieving families. Or is he? There are a couple of clues at the beginning of the movie to give away the story but basically the story begins with Ricci being involved in a car accident and winding up on a table in the funeral parlour. It is a little weird from the beginning with Neeson talking with the bodies on his table who presumably aren't ready to die yet.

Like I said I won't go into too many details but the creep factor is pretty high most of the time. The caliber of acting is obviously outstanding so that makes up for a little bit of a lame story - but it is definitely unique. I am constantly impressed by Ricci and Neeson is fabulous in just about everything he does too. Definitely worth your time and the only red light would be some language and nudity which is not done in a sexual manner at all. The ending was not a surprise for us just how it played out so hopefully you will be surprised and a little freaked out too. Enjoy this DVD with your family as long as it doesn't include little kids as the content is way too far over little ones heads.
